Vivo Nex Review, Repair, Price in the Philippines (PHP 32,422.13)
Some of you will remember ViVO Apex , a smartphone "concept" presented by the Chinese company a few months ago and featuring a retractable front camera, which pops out from the body only when it is needed for a selfie or a video call. Of this model the traces have been lost shortly after its presentation, even if ViVO has always promised its commercialization by 2018. And it was a word: in the event held today in Shanghai, in which we participated live, the producer officially launched its first smartphone with a pop-up camera and has a name vaguely reminiscent of Apex, at least for phonetic assonance.
It's called ViVO NEX , it's a borderless integral (it has no upper, lower and side frames) and has a front camera hidden in the frame. We took advantage of the prototypes displayed in the demo area, after the event, for a first contact: the video you find above collects our impressions "hot" and an overview of the technical specifications and design, but you can also appreciate it from the rich Photo gallery.
ViVO has provided two versions of NEX: the entry-level model will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor with Adreno 616 GPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM expandable, while the top-of-range version will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC 845 with Adreno 630 GPU, 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal memory. However, only the most expensive models will integrate an in-display fingerprint sensor , 50% more accurate and 10% faster than the previous generation, which will be replaced by a classic fingerprint on the back in cheaper variants.
It is still not clear how the two variants will be indicated and distinguished (first with A and S), but probably the company will decide to name the premium version as " Ultimate Edition ".
All configurations, however, boast a Super AMOLED 6.59-inch Full HD + display (2316 x 1080 pixels) Ultra FullView with an aspect ratio of 19.3: 9 and a dual-camera rear with 12MP sensors (Sony IMX363, f / 1.8) + 5MP (f /2.4) as well as AI functions for operations such as automatic scene recognition, HDR support and preloaded filters. Do not miss a 4000 mAh rechargeable battery through the USB Type-C port, the headphone audio jack, 4G-LTE (dual-SIM), dual band 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS. The operating system is Android 8.1 Oreo with a proprietary user interface FunTouch OS 4.0, but there seems to be room for a voice assistant called Jovi.
Beyond the hardware, ViVO NEX is special for two key features: the ultra-thin frames around the display and the front camera. Unlike other bezel-less smartphones in circulation, this model does not have the notch: the upper edge measures approximately 2.16 mm, the side edges do not exceed 1.71 mm, while the lower is the thickest with 5.08 mm, but the screen-to-screen ratio -body equal to 91.2% remains one of the highest to date. Suffice it to say that the smartphone measures only 162 x 77 x 8 mm (weight 199 grams), a real record for the diagonal of the display.
So, where are the components that are normally concentrated in the notch? The 8MP (f / 2.0) front camera is retractable , the proximity sensor is finished in the display and the ear capsule (usually integrated into the upper frame) has been replaced by a bone conduction system. And if all that is not enough, the back of ViVO NEX is characterized by the "Holographic Diffraction Dynamic Color" technology created with lasers that gives a bold look to an already revolutionary smartphone.
Vivo NEX will be on sale in the Chinese market from 23 June in the colors Diamond Black and Red. The entry-level version (Snapdragon 710) will have a price of 3898 yuan (almost 520 euros) while the premium version (Snapdragon 845) will reach over 4500 yuan (just over 600 euros). However, if you are aiming for the 256GB variant, you will need to add another 100 euros.
