With Google Glass about to be released later this year, Sony improving its own Smart Watch and Apple and Samsung beating each other on developing head mounted gadgets, wearable technology really is the future now.

But wearable is a very broad term. Sure eyeglasses and wrist watches are something you can sport anytime, any where, but how about technology married to clothings, things you do wear in a day to day basis.

These are the top 5 high tech smart clothing technology, that are truly wearable.


Glove Phone. Introduced by designer Sean Miles, the idea is to use your gloves to answer phone calls. Use pinkie as the mouthpiece and the thumb as the receiver. Clever idea? Sure. Great when you don’t like slapping expensive gadgets into your face especially in pickpocket-prone areas. Not great, for people, places and occasions when gloves are not necessary.

Smart Socks. Designed especially for fitness buffs and patients especially the diabetics, smart socks are equipped with sensors that monitor calorie burned and distance and number of steps walked.

Wi Fi Detecting T-Shirts. This is just one of the many variants of t-shirts with built-in electronic boards, LEDs, batteries and what nots. This techie t-shirt does what its name implies, it lights up whenever a wi fi hot spot is well, spotted. Other similar hi-tech tees include LCD or LED panels incorporated into the shirt and others.

Baby Monitoring Straps. Heard of that interesting baby diaper mobile app designed to alert parents when their babies pee? These straps work the same, they can be attached to socks, mittens, to monitor temperature, activity and even heart rate.

So there you go, the top 5 high tech clothing. This is not sci-fi though, so sorry if you are expecting ala-Tom Cruise or Iron Man type of techy suits. These items however are still in infancy stage and could remain as they are, novel. But seeing these, reminds us that we are not far from holding gadgets to actually wearing them.
